Volcano Garden Arts is situated on a World Heritage site a mile from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Once a part of the 1908 Hopper Estate, its lovely grounds include enchanting cultivated gardens, art studios, greenhouses for both plant cultivation and art-making, and access to nature trails into surrounding, upland rain forest. The farmhouse-turned-gallery is California redwood originally brought to Volcano by ship, rail and horse-drawn wagon.

At Volcano Garden Arts, discover the foremost in contemporary Hawaiian arts and fine crafts: ceramics, sculpture, fiber arts, painting and many other media. Our selection ranges from fresh, fun collectibles to works of significant impact, and from pocket-sized to larger-than-life. The entire complex is located within lush gardens and historic structures right in Volcano Village near lodging and restaurants. We welcome self-guided tours of the grounds and gallery.  We recently added our "Secret Garden" walking trail, A easy walking loop.  Admission is free.

Volcano Garden Arts is a unique indoor/outdoor environment devoted to every stage of the creative process, from nurturing ideas to displaying finished work. A window into artistic exploration for artists and non-artists alike, we offer work-space, ongoing classes and a gallery that showcases work — created on site and by regional artists — for purchase.

The owner, Ira Ono (he calls himself a caretaker) is an internationally-recognized artist with more than 30 years of experience in creating, performing, and teaching art — as well as a devoted gardener. He is a longtime Volcano resident and appreciator of its distinctive appeal. Volcano Garden Arts inspires artists, writers and gardeners from around the world to explore, retreat, and enjoy the wonders of Hawai'i.
