Friday, July 17

You are invited to take a behind the scenes peek at the fascinating world of the New York City Ballet costume shop at Lincoln Center with costume shop manager, Dara Faust.

Costume shop manager Dara Faust has the prodigious task of overseeing the day to day operations of this unique operation. Her responsibilities include keeping track of everyone’s activities, managing a 15–person work force, assisting in all design and purchasing decisions, scheduling dancer fittings, attending dress rehearsals, craft and millenary projects and any other tasks to get new and refurbished costumes on stage, as well as managing a $1 million dollar annual budget.

Dara’s captivating presentation incorporates a digital slide show and will give you the impression that you are on a live, guided tour of this exciting world.

The New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center, is the only Ballet company in America to boast its own, permanent costume shop. Their shop overlooks the Hudson River and is filled with light from huge westward looking windows. It has the feel of a fine couture house, textile shop, the dressing rooms from your favorite department store, a fantasy workshop and your grandmother’s attic, all rolled into one incredible space. It is always humming with activity as designers, dancers, seamstresses, dressers and choreographers are constantly on the go through its doors.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
